Victory Day 2019

Victory Day is observed in Maldives on 3 November each year. This day is celebrated as a government and public holiday in Maldives in remembrance of 3 November 1988 Thursday, on which day two traitors Luthfee and Nasir tried to take over the capital Male' and force down than the current government of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

These two traitors sought the help of PLOTE (Peoples Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam) of neighbor country Sri Lanka where PLOTE was at that time of 1980's banned and an illegal organization killing Sri Lankan's and forcing the minority tamils to join PLOTE.

The 3 November 1998 attack was a surprise attack and shocked the whole world including India, some countries in the middle east, Britain, United States, and even Malaysia.

The MNDF (at that time it was NSS) fought back and won the battle from around 4:30 AM which was the dawn prayer time for Male' and PLOTE knew they had lost the battle and defeated around 9:00 AM morning and started to kidnap some civilians of Male' to return to Sri Lanka.

Luthfee is still in jail and now elderly. He was a sort of business man but doing black marketing and rebelled each government of Maldives. He drinks wine which is forbidden in our beloved country Maldives. He was also a gun runner and smuggled weapons to the Maldives.

In 1990 the government of Maldives handed over the PLOTE mercenaries in the prisons of Maldives and the Sri Lankan government did what they had to do with these tamils. They were sentenced to jail and most of them had been rehabilitated back to normal life.
